The Barber Chair

How Often Should You Get a Fade?

Most fades look their best with a visit every two to four weeks. The right timing depends on how sharp you like to keep it.

The short answer

For most people, every two to four weeks works well. A close skin fade may need a touch-up sooner if you like strong contrast. A low fade or taper can usually go longer. There is no strict rule. It comes down to how you like your cut to look.

Start with the finish, not the calendar

A close skin fade usually keeps that just-cut look for about one to two weeks. Many clients with a regular fade come back every two to three weeks. A lower fade or taper can often stretch to three to six weeks.

Those are starting points, not deadlines. Some people like the softer look as a cut grows in. Others want the edges and contrast kept crisp.

Why close fades change sooner

New growth is easy to spot when the cut started at skin level. The fade is still there, but the contrast softens faster than it would on a longer style.

That does not mean the cut suddenly looks bad. It just means the sharpest part of the finish does not last as long.

Signs it is time for a refresh

Use the mirror, not the calendar. It may be time to come back when:

  • The temple or neckline is losing its intended shape.
  • The sides begin competing with the volume or texture on top.
  • The beard-to-hair transition no longer feels connected.
  • Styling takes more effort than it did after the cut.
  • A work event, wedding, trip, or photo day is approaching.

A clean-up between full cuts

Try not to rebuild the fade at home. Taking the line too high makes the next blend harder to fix. If you only need the edges cleaned up, Lads Fade Lounge lists a Line Up at CAD $15 for 15 minutes.

A full Haircut & Style is CAD $40 for 40 minutes. Haircut & Beard is CAD $50 for one hour when your beard needs a reset as well.
