Highlights vs Solid Colour: What Should You Book?

Solid colour gives you one consistent tone. Highlights add lighter pieces and dimension. Here is what to book and what to bring to your consultation.

The short answer

Book solid colour if you want one consistent tone or broad coverage from roots to ends. Book highlights if you want lighter pieces and more dimension. Mini, partial, and full describe how much of your hair is highlighted, not three different colours.

The visual difference

Solid colour creates a more even result from roots to ends. It can deepen your shade, refresh an existing tone, or add broader coverage depending on your starting colour.

Highlights lighten selected pieces, so your hair keeps more variation. Placement, width, and tone determine whether the result looks subtle, bright, blended, or high contrast.

Mini, partial, or full highlights

A mini highlight focuses on a small area, often around the face or part. A partial highlight adds lightness through selected areas. A full highlight spreads it more broadly around the head.

The Beauty Salon lists Mini Highlight at $75+, Partial Highlight at $90+, and Full Highlight at $120+. Solid Colour starts at $65+, and Root Touchup starts at $55+.

Choose based on the result and upkeep

Bring photos of both your desired result and your current hair in natural light. Then discuss:

  • Your natural and current colour history.
  • Whether the goal is coverage, brightness, dimension, or correction.
  • How visible you want the grow-out to feel.
  • How often you are willing to return for maintenance.
  • The condition of the hair and what can be achieved safely in one visit.

Why the consultation matters

The plus sign on colour pricing matters. Hair length, density, colour history, and the amount of product needed can change the final price and appointment time.

Bring reference photos, but do not worry about naming the technique perfectly. Two people asking for full highlights may need very different placement and toning to get the look they want.
